'The 12 Usability Tips of Christmas' a keynote for the Digital Marketing Academy

Next Monday 16th December, iKOS' Managing Director Myles Davidson will be speaking at the latest event from the Digital Marketing Academy ‘Stocking Fillers For eCommerce Success’. Myles will be taking the audience through his 12 Usability Tips of Christmas; helping you make the small changes to your online store that make big difference to your online sales conversion rates.

Myles will be joined by Sage Pay, the most recommended payment service provider in the UK – who will be giving you tips on improving the purchase process and explaining how a single click checkout’ can benefit your business. In case you missed my talk @Digital_MA event Monday 16th December at the Design Museum here are all 12 (usability) tips of Christmas
 - stocking fillers for eCommerce success

Tip 1) Forms: don’t make visitors think. Make it easy, instructive, clear and remove all but essentials

Tip 2) Use realtime (in-line) feedback to reduce errors and increase success and conversion rates

Tip 3) Delivery & Shipping Addresses - use defaults - you can generally assume most people ship to themselves

Tip 4) Copy: avoid jargon especially the technical kind like SSL or CVV

Tip 5) Buttons - avoid contextual words like ‘continue’ on buttons in eCommerce

Tip 6) Declutter - remove all but what a buyer needs to complete or enhance a purchase

Tip 7) Registration - “not another b!**** password” don’t force visitors to register in order to buy

Tip 8) Search - Implement an intelligent search to cover singular, plurals, misspellings - OR DON’T DO IT AT ALL

Tip 9) Recommendations - use behavioural recommendations to increase average order value

Tip 10) Cross device / cross browser testing has never been more important with the proliferation of devices.

Tip 11) Mobile first - when planning a new site consider ‘mobile first’ to add not remove content/features

Tip 12) Analytics - 'you cannot manage what you don’t measure’. Upgrade to Google Universal tracking
